Hanna Holma:
The Chillingly Beautiful Stargate Leaves No Room for Doubt
Gallery Rikhard | Rikhardinkatu Library lobby
Welcome to the opening on Wednesday, 1 April at 4–6.30pm!
The crazier the world gets, the more important it is to look for something that is real and give it time. Maybe also to give time to making pictures, pictures that are real to me.
This is my first exhibition, and these are also my first new monotypes in eight years. Eight years ago, I felt that my motives for making art had become false and I needed a break.
Now, in the spring of 2026, making pictures feels like a fresh and surprising gift again.
Facts open up to me as pictures. When I realise some current fact in my own life, a picture floats before my eyes. These moments are also accompanied by a buzzing, immense feeling of gratitude: it's great to be alive. I write down what I saw and later realise it as a monotype.
If I have been sincere when making the picture and naming it, there is no need for anything more to happen. But if it happens that someone else experiences something meaningful when looking at the picture, what could be more fulfilling?
