Iina Heiskanen:
15 Rocks

Teoskuva.

Gallery Katariina is delighted to present the exhibition 15 Rocks by Iina Heiskanen 4–27, 2025.

We warmly invite you to the exhibition opening on Thursday, 3 April, from 5 to 7 pm!

The 15 Rocks exhibition consists of small-sized works printed on thin paper from wood. At their simplest, they outline a space whose basic elements can also be found outside the boundaries of the works. The paper records pictorial information in a tightly unified composition. On the other hand, structures and rhythms repeat and rearrange themselves in and in relation to the surrounding space. The works activate the space in their own quiet way.

Heiskanen approaches subjects thematically, often considering them as complete entities. During the process, visual ideas are structured and reduced, their origin fades and a new possibility of perception arises.

The ideas for the exhibition crystallized in the Ryoan-ji rock garden in Kyoto, where perception takes place between memory and the present. In a space where everything can be seen, but not at the same time.

Iina Heiskanen (b. 1974) is a Helsinki-based artist who works in Helsinki and Trieste, Italy. She graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2016 and a Master of Arts from the University of Art and Design in 2007.
