Erno Peltonen:
GATHERING
We warmly invite you to celebrate the opening of Erno Peltonen’s exhibition at Gallery Katariina on Thursday, October 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition GATHERING will be on view from October 30 to November 22, 2026.
Peltonen's exhibition consists of a series of oil paintings that focus on abandoned bicycles. They form piles, deserted heaps, or remain as solitary objects. The theme can be seen as related to the cityscape, the environment, or recycling - even as something a bit strange. Filling the fringes of everyday commuter routes, these abandoned bicycles also symbolize oblivion and the short lifespan of things typical of modern times.
For Peltonen, the visual content serves as a tool to take painting into a new direction. It offers an opportunity to combine timeless oil painting with a more modern visual language. The exhibition’s main piece, Gathering, is a large diptych where order, chaos, composition, and the color palette paint the big picture. At the same time, the viewer is challenged to contemplate what is a relevant subject for a painting.
Erno Peltonen (b. 1978, Tuusula) is a painter living and working in Tampere. His works are included in collections such as the City of Tampere and the Helsinki University Hospital (HUS).
