Raana Lehtinen:
Eternity in the Garden (Hall 2)

In Raana Lehtinen’s exhibition Eternity in the Garden, memories of youth intertwine with fresh observations of the surrounding environment. In oil and watercolour paintings, the everyday nature of the nearby landscape becomes a stage for something wondrous. Tulips bloom for a fleeting moment from one spring to the next, the passing years blur the entries of a diary, and morning gradually breaks in a lily-of-the-valley forest. Reality is interpreted anew through painting, now glowing with light.  

Raana Lehtinen is interested in the human being’s place as part of an ecosystem, and in her paintings she explores the relationship between humans and nature through her experiences of the environment. At the heart of her practice is an attempt to undo the imagined separation between humans and nature. Her works draw on observations made in urban nature: the changing seasons, as well as shifts taking place in plant and animal life. Alongside these immediate observations, she returns to memories of the nearby forests of her childhood. Lehtinen grew up, and continues to live, in a suburb of Eastern Helsinki, and the settings of her paintings are consequently found in fragmented woodland and urban parks. 

Raana Lehtinen (b. 1990) is a visual artist based in Helsinki. She graduated from the Free Art School in 2019 and received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2024. Her most recent solo exhibitions were held at Galerie Forsblom in Helsinki in 2025 and at Taidekeskus Salmela in Mäntyharju in 2026. Lehtinen has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Vastamaalattua at the Sara Hildén Art Museum in Tampere in 2026 and Portrait Now! in Hillerød, Denmark, in 2021. Her works are held in private collections as well as in the collections of the Finnish National Gallery and the Tampere Art Museum. 

The exhibition is supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, the Vermeeriana Foundation, and the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
