Katrin Valgemäe:
EAT, FIGHT, REPEAT
Gallery Katariina is displaying Katrin Valgemäe's exhibition EAT, FIGHT, REPEAT from May 8 to May 31, 2026. You are warmly welcome to the opening of the exhibition on Thursday, May 7th, from 5 PM to 7 PM!
EAT, FIGHT, REPEAT is an exhibition by Tallinn-based artist Katrin Valgemäe that explores repetition, habit, and the illusion of freedom in contemporary life. Working primarily with painting, Valgemäe examines the patterns that shape everyday behavior — routines that feel natural, yet are often driven by unconscious processes, social conditioning, and automated responses.
Through a visual language influenced by punk and camp aesthetics, the exhibition reflects on how identity, taste, and decision-making are constructed and repeated. The title itself refers to a loop: consumption, conflict, and repetition as a self-sustaining cycle.
A central aspect of the exhibition is the moment when this cycle begins to break. A disruption — a “glitch” — where familiar structures no longer function as expected. In this interruption, control weakens and a new kind of awareness can emerge. Rather than offering clear answers, the works create situations where viewers are invited to experience these breaks and reflect on their own patterns of perception and behavior.
The exhibition moves between critique and play, combining raw expression with irony. It does not seek resolution, but instead opens a space where instability, contradiction, and imperfection can be experienced as meaningful.
