Jussi Meuronen: PEOPLE FLEW LIKE BIRDS
Jussi Meuronen’s exhibition consists of mixed media and watercolor paintings, where simplified human figures take center stage. The works explore humanity: its dark sides, constant change, the fleeting nature of life, and the feeling of loneliness.
The daily flood of information and various stimuli serve as sources of inspiration, and the visual observations drawn from them are part of the works. The pieces search for points of pain that must be faced in order to live and be. The paintings capture scenes and moods of contemporary life, but they don’t only depict darkness; they also convey joy. Why worry when we will inevitably dissolve into eternity?
”As a child at our summer cottage, I gazed at a Chagall poster and dreamed of flying like birds. Recently, I read a news story about war: it described how, in the explosion of an anti-tank mine, people flew like birds.”
Jussi Meuronen graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 2016 with a Master of Fine Arts degree and has also studied at the Art School Maa. He has been actively working as a visual artist since 2011.
