Interested in membership of Helsinki Artists' Association?

The Helsinki Artists’ Association (HAA) promotes the modes of operation and position of the visual arts domain with diverse education, project, and exhibition activities as well as with multidisciplinary collaboration.

The Helsinki Artists’ Association is an organisation advancing the interests of its over 900 professional visual artist members based in Helsinki. Founded in 1967, HAA’s core activities include arranging exhibitions and art lending services, international operations, and the course and education services in visual arts provided by the Art School. HAA values sustainability, communality, professionalism, diversity, glocality combining locality and internationality, and it seeks to advance the availability and accessibility of the visual arts.

Helsinki Artists’ Association offers its members versatile member services and benefits. What is more, the members of HAA are also members of the Union of Finnish Art Associations and will thus be entitled to discounts of e.g. art museum entrance fees and art supply prices and can apply for exhibition programmes.

Professional visual artists and art students living in Helsinki can apply for the membership of the Helsinki Artists’ Association. The application can be submitted either in Finnish or English.

The current annual membership fee is €70, and the fee for the following year is always determined in the annual meeting in December.

The member application round of Helsinki Artists' Association 2024

  • The electronic membership application round of the Helsinki Artists’ Association starts on 1st October, at 00:01 and ends on 15th November at 23:59.
  • About the application form: In addition to the applicant’s personal information and curriculum vitae, please attach a maximum of 5 photos of the works of art / a maximum of 5 video works to the application form. Please note that the number of works and the file size of the attached images are limited to a maximum of 0.5 MB / image.
    Please be prepared for the image size limitation in advance by checking the images to be attached and, if necessary, reduce the size of the original images. When resizing, the reduced image should be saved as a new file with a new file name. The maximum size of  downloadable PDF files is 2048 KB.
  • The application processing fee is €25. The processing fee is paid to the Helsinki Artists’ Association account FI41 1544 3000 1992 86 (BIC: NDEAFIHH). NB: The payment must feature the reference number 20242. Please attach a PDF receipt of the payment to the application form.

The new members are selected by the Helsinki Artists’ Association Board according to the criteria set in the annual meeting. All applicants will receive information about the results by email.

selection criteria

  • Professional visual artists and art students living in Helsinki can apply for the membership of the Helsinki Artists’ Association.
  • Both the works of art and CV of the applicants are assessed, the main focus being in the quality of the works of art.
  • In your CV, please highlight your education, solo exhibitions, joint exhibitions, memberships in other artists’ associations, collection purchases, public works, art projects / performances / other artistic activities, positions of trust, residencies, art teaching, etc.
  • It is of utmost importance to attach good-quality and up-to-date photos of your works of art to the application form. Cohesion is key – please do not submit a retrospective compilation of works from the last ten years or a mixed set of different pieces, but rather a coherent selection from the last couple of years.
