Vappu Johansson: Hypistelyä / Clutching
(part of series, 2023, pigment print, handmade linen paper, photopolymer and beeswax collage on cellular cardboard, 40 x 40 cm)

 

 

I’ve crumpled old tissues. The stains and wear on the fabric remind me of aging and the slow transformation before fading away. Fabric, skin, and paper crinkle in different ways, but all react to time, light, touch, and moisture. By repeating motions and similar images, I attempt to capture the handling imprinted on the fragile piece of fabric.
